Pr2-Ex1: Parallel Perspective – An Interior View

interior01interior2A3 Paper with F pencil and 6B graphite stick.

I decided to practise tone again in this exercise as well as think about the perspective. on the tone front maybe I should have been bolder with the darker areas and added more mid tone to really make the highlights stand out. I think I can see a number of tonal values in there. The quest for depicting form continues..

Looking at linear perspective I can see some of the lines I made with out ruler where correct to the eye level and others such as the rug and right had mid wall are wrong. I found the eye level by measuring myself against the real door and marking the eye level with tape. I then put the horizon line on my drawing at the corresponding height. I measured to find the middle of the horizontal line then made parallel lines from that point.

About Emma Perring

Artist, oil painter

  1. Good work Emma, quite a technical subject. When I did my Van Gogh research point the drawing I chose had faint prelim perspective lines in it – so you’re in good company! I didn’t realise how crucial it is to get the perspective right, even in a seemingly simple landscape.
