Pr1-Ex1:Sketch Book Walk

Pleasing sketch book page

The second atmpt at sketch book walk became one short walk in a garden and one short drive to home base and the pretty village of church gate. Again these drawings are done from life.

  • A4 sketch book
  • HB + 2B pencil
  • Compressed charcoal
  • Previously marbled paper

I like how the yellow marbling in the church gate drawing lends itself to the shape of the tree which was covered in yellow leafs. Also the violet area over the building and the road where in the correct place for the shadow. A happy coincidence! With the marble paper drawings I chose papers that seemed autumnal.

I think felt tip work best over the marbling. I hope to try some more using different marks with pen to build up the scene as I started to do in the barn drawing in ‘sketch book drive’. Here charcoal stands out better than the pencil. Obvious really.
